Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Phú Quốc island lies 120 kms from Rạch Giá city and nearly 540 kms from Laem Chabang, Thailand. Roughly triangular in shape, the island is some of  60 kms long north to south and 28 kms east to west in the north at its widest.

Phu Quoc means something different to everybody. Known as Koh Tral by the Cambodians, it is also referred to as the ‘Island of 99 mountains’,  and also ‘The Emerald Island’ for it’s bountiful natural treasures, but for visitors it’s known simply as paradise.

Phu Quoc in Kien Giang Province is dubbed the “pearl island” due to its richness in nature and great tourism potential. Phu Quoc National Park on Phu Quoc Island has an abundance of flora. Over 80% of the island is covered in forest and this s favourable living conditions for many insects, including dragonflies. According to a survey conducted by Wildlife At Risk (WAR), a non-government organization on natural resource preservation in South Vietnam, there are 54 species on the Island. This accounts for 23% of the 235 species of dragonflies in Vietnam.

The family of dragonflies is rather diverse and it includes some species that were discovered by scientists 100 – 200 years ago. These include the Newrobasis chinsis (Linnaeus, 1758) and the Orthetrum chrysis (Selys, 1891). In December 2008, WAR recorded five new species of dragonflies found along the streams running through forests and areas of different terrains.

Down south of the island, visitors can go to Sao beach – white sand beaches as crystal, clear water and see through the ocean floor, especially the fresh air is making people feel refreshed and relaxed. You can rent a boat to the island squid fishing, coral diving, or swimming. Or simply watch the sun set over the ocean, the feeling of harmony with nature. Cool sea breezes along the white sand beaches bordering the clear blue sea crystal really make this place as “paradise.”

At noon, a new beach visitors flocked to the beach and sun. Hương, staff at a restaurant on the beach Sao, said many foreign tourists sunbathe on the beach all day, they said that level with beautiful beaches of Hawaii, Bali … but the space where quiet and more romantic.

Guests can visit the Ham Ninh fishing village, facing the sea, behind the mountains, life here still seem to remain untouched as long ago. The main occupations of the inhabitants of the pearl diving, fishing net and sea cucumbers. When the tide, vast sandy beaches run away, filled up at the beach on the edge of the forest. Best of all was to go to Ham Ninh on the moonlit night, enjoying the scene monthly update floating on water.

On the way, you should visit Tranh stream, streams, stone table, soaking in cold springs resort between jungle. Rocks along the stream, winding through the mountains to the sea air flow. Suoi Tranh is surrounded by lush greenery, the water is clear mild.
